Fernando Vilela

foto-fernando-vilelaBrazilian author and illustrator, born in Sao Paolo in 1973. Fernando Vilela obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Arts and then his Masters in Arts, from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Sao Paolo. In 2005 he was chosen to participate in the Biennial Illustration of Brastislava and took part in the international workshop for illustrators given by Albin Brunovsky. He has also studied with Laura Vinci and Paulo Pasta in his home town.

Throughout his career he has received a number of prizes for his work, both in the world of plastic arts as well as in the world of illustration and literature. In 2007, Fernando Vilela has received a Ragazzi Awards Honor Mention for Lampiao e Lancelote.

He has held several individual exhibitions and has participated in collective exhibitions in different museums and galleries in Brazil, France and the United States. In addition, he has exhibited his works, given workshops or taken part in talks and conferences in international shows and biennials in Brazil, the United States and France.

He is currently working on future projects and is a professor at the Tomie Ohtake Institute in Sao Paolo where he gives painting courses and courses on illustrated book.
